The Velo-city conference series has a long history that spans over five decades, making it the most significant global platform for promoting cycling as a sustainable and healthy mode of transportation. The inaugural Velo-city conference took place in 1980 in Bremen and today, Velo-city contributes to the global movement towards more bicycle-friendly cities and inspiring transformative policies and projects that prioritise sustainable mobility for all.
By Energizing Solidarity, Velo-city 2025 Gdansk embraced the attendees' transformative force to create a new social impulse. Velo-citizens gathered once more in all their power to foster connection and joy. No other city could have better represented cycling as a tool of emancipation and sustainability than the Baltic city of Gdansk.

Velo-city 2024 Ghent was all about Connecting through Cycling: One place with another, one city with its region, one river bank with the other side. One sector with another. People with people.
Under the main theme Leading the Transition by redefining public space or working together, Velo-city 2023 Leipzig presented how to move from words to action!


Under the main theme Cycling the Change, Velo-city 2022 Ljubljana presented cycling as the "wind of change” in urban development. It reveals itself in infrastructural redesign, the reallocation of public space and the development of new sharing concepts. It aims at building cities for people and finding innovative approaches to provide services to citizens, to bring people closer together.
The Velo-city story began in 1980 in Bremen with deep ties in the founding of the European Cyclists’ Federation. Since then, conferences have been held in cities all over the world including Ljubljana, Brussels, Seville, Vancouver and Rio de Janeiro.
