Orsolya Liptay

Campaign Manager - Kerekparosklub
My journey didn't start with a desire to change the world, but with a desire to ride a bike with my son. I’ve learned that whether you are on a bicycle or on foot, the way we share our streets is a reflection of how we treat each other—and there is always room to do better.
My name is Orsolya Liptay, and I am the campaign manager of the Hungarian Cyclists' Club. More than fifteen years ago, I traded my car keys for a heavy, single-speed Csepel bike simply because I wanted to ride with my son. That small change turned into a profound discovery of personal freedom, but also a sharp awakening to the dangers vulnerable road users face in our cities. That experience led me to join the Critical Mass movement, starting a seventeen-year journey of advocacy that continues today. Over the years, I have worn many hats—from organizing cyclist breakfasts and teaching urban safety skills through Bebiciklizés, to helping run the Bike Kitchen community workshop. While my work with the Hungarian Cyclists' Club and my regional organization focuses on cycling, my perspective has evolved. I have come to realize that the heart of a livable city is how we treat those on foot. I have learned that systemic change requires patience and persistence. Today, I remain committed to the belief that by prioritizing the safety and dignity of the most vulnerable in traffic, we create a more respectful and connected society for everyone.
