Naseem is the founder and CEO of Saheli Hub. A true community champion, she has pioneered women’s physical activity and sport for over 25 years in Birmingham, UK. Through challenging stereotypes and breaking down barriers for women, Saheli Hub have tackled inequalities and created opportunities for Birmingham’s ethnically diverse communities. Saheli Hub have worked with over 16,000 women since 1998. Focusing on female empowerment and culturally-sensitive approaches, Naseem pioneered the first Asian girls club in Birmingham, offering a wide range of activities from cycling, walking and running, to rock climbing, canoeing, skiing and even quad biking. Saheli Hub originated and pioneered the first social prescribing model in 2008 using community-based approaches in partnership with GPs to manage or prevent long term health conditions and reduce isolation through physical activity and sport. Saheli Hub have led the way in engaging and training local women to become sports leaders and coaches that are reflective of the community they serve and live in. This long-standing service is reflected in Naseem’s selection as a Home Town Hero for the Commonwealth Games 2022. Raising aspirations and expanding horizons, Naseem has shown women they can be and do anything they set their heart to.
