Luc Desmedt was born in Anderlecht, Belgium and studied French linguistics at the Universiteit Gent from 1973-1977. He then worked as a French teacher from 1977-2020 in Gent, Brugge, Wetteren and Dendermonde (Flanders) until retiring in 2020.
He has been working as a volunteer for better and easily accessible public transport since 1980. He is a co-founder of passenger organisation TreinTramBus (1985) and local citizens’ initiative Actie Openbaar Vervoer (AOV). Additionally, he is also a Board member of passenger organisation Vlaamse Reizigersbond (REBO), and an active member of numerous volunteer platforms, e.g. Gentse Busbeweging (GBB), Verenigde Supporters Openbaar Vervoer (VSOV) and Busje blijft zo!
He has co-authored various articles about examples of good public transport, published in the Flemish magazine Verkeersspecialist. His points of interest include easy access for all to excellent public transport, learning from good practices in other countries, etcetera.
