Mr. Jānis Sijāts is a Latvian sustainable mobility advocate dedicated to transforming forgotten landscapes into living cycling and greenways corridors. For over a decade he has worked on the revival of abandoned railway lines - greenways, weaving cross-border connections across Latvia and beyond. He sees greenways as practical tools for connecting communities, unlocking local heritage and designing tourism experiences with lasting social and economic value. His current PhD research at Rīga Stradiņš University explores the factors shaping local cooperation in building micromobility corridors, incl. greenways, bridging grassroots cross-border practice with academic inquiry.
