Engin Akturk

Dr. Architect - Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality
Istanbul - TÜRKIYE
Dr. Engin Aktürk is an architect and researcher exploring the relationship between cultural heritage and sustainable mobility. He works at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Transportation Department as the EuroVelo Project Coordinator and leads several EU-funded projects on sustainable urban transport. His doctoral research focused on developing sustainable conservation policies for cultural landscapes in rural settlements. Engin’s work highlights the bicycle not only as a mode of transport but also as a tool for reinterpreting urban memory and strengthening the human scale in cities. Bridging theory and practice, he organises bicycle-based urban workshops and awareness projects that connect mobility with cultural heritage and urban identity. In addition, through collaborations with cycling NGOs, he contributes to bicycle advocacy and the promotion of cycling as a driver of cultural and environmental sustainability.
