Significant progress has been made in recent years to develop the cycling network and invest in active mobility and citizen health, efforts that are even being recognized internationally. It is a real source of pride that Quebec City is increasingly recognized as an innovative and welcoming destination for cyclists of all levels. In 2025, Quebec City made a remarkable entry into the prestigious Copenhagenize Index, ranking 29th in the world and 2nd in North America for its urban cycling.
Bruno Marchand is a committed leader who became the 38th mayor of Québec City on November 7, 2021. He was re-elected for a second four-year term on November 2, 2025. Since taking office, Bruno Marchand has spoken to Quebecers with his trademark straightforwardness and determination to leave a stronger municipal legacy for future generations. In 2024, L’Actualité magazine recognized him as the eighth most influential person in Québec. He is an avid runner and cyclist who spares no effort to showcase his city. Despite the hectic pace of his role, he has participated several sporting challenges in Québec City and beyond. The development of the VivaCité corridors – safe, dedicated active mobility routes for cyclists and pedestrians, separated from car traffic and accessible all year round – and the implementation of the ÀVélo bike-sharing service, are key achievements of his last term. Since September 2022, Bruno Marchand has held the key position of President of the Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC), serving as a unique ambassador for our culture and identity worldwide. To promote French as a language of cultural and economic exchange, he also serves as vice president of Association internationale des Maires francophones (AIMF), alongside the Mayor of Paris. Bruno Marchand was previously Executive Director of Centraide Québec, Chaudière-Appalaches and Bas-Saint-Laurent, which fights against poverty and social exclusion, from 2014 to 2021, after working from 2008 to 2014 with the Quebec Association for Suicide Prevention.
