Anastasiia Makarenko is a Ukrainian civil society activist and Executive Director of U-Cycle (Kyiv Cyclists’ Association), promoting cycling as part of sustainable and safe urban mobility and leading the humanitarian campaign #BikesForUkraine, launched in 2022 to support mobility in war-affected communities. After graduating from the National Transport University in Kyiv, Anastasiia joined the civic movement during the Revolution of Dignity and has worked in U-Cycle since 2014. In 2015-2020, she coordinated cycling and road-safety projects in the Donbas region, supporting de-occupied and frontline communities, and helped develop cycling master plans for several cities. Since 2021, together with her team, she has led the Bike2School campaign, integrating cycling safety into Ukrainian schools. In 2025, she was one of the initiators of a new master’s course on Urban Cycling Mobility Planning. She holds a Master’s in Nonprofit Management and was named among Kyiv Post’s “Top 30 Under 30” and awarded a Young Peacebuilders scholarship.
