Words matter: Cycling in journalism and media
19 Jun 2026 11:00 - 11:45 Castello 1 Workshop
Good Vibes. Championing an Inclusive Transition
How media chooses to portray cycling impacts everything from public perception to policy making. Too often, sensationalist headlines and car-centric media narratives polarise debates and impede progress on sustainable active mobility. To shift this perspective, cycling advocates, cities, and regions must engage journalists constructively, tell compelling stories and ground them in best practices that are relatable, tangible, achievable and accessible. ECF Members & Networks representatives from Denmark, Finland, Belgium, the Netherlands, and UK will come together in this session to share their experiences and their diverse approaches to media management, language choice, balancing evidence and data with relatable stories. The session will be conducted as a workshop, to elicit maximum engagement from speakers and participants alike.
