UN-Habitat: Africa on the move - Stories of change from PAAPAM champions

This session is focused on the different journey of three active mobility champions from Ghana, Kenya and Malawi. These countries are shaping, each in its own way, the future of walking and cycling in Africa. Each speaker will share their personal story, from shaping national policy, to mobilizing communities, to implement change at the city level. These stories reflect the diversity, creativity, and resilience of Africa’s mobility landscape and how its cities are successfully transitioning into inclusive, people-centered environments. This session will celebrate community-driven efforts and the power of cycling champions to trigger solidarity and hope. The speakers will inspire participants to see cycling not just as a mode of transport, but as a catalyst for equity, dignity, and joy.
