Built to Inspire. Designing Beautiful Urban Environments
How can cities redesign their streets to prioritise people, active mobility, and nature? This session brings together four inspiring European and North American experiences that show how visionary planning can translate into vibrant, liveable urban spaces. From reclaiming towpaths along rivers and canals for cycling, to safe active mobility corridors, demonstrating the craft of designing AAA (All Ages and Abilities) cycling infrastructure, to transforming a waterfront through slow mobility and wellbeing-focused design, to cycling streets, speakers will share lessons from implementation, highlighting how greenery, comfort, and active travel can coexist, and revealing practical strategies for creating healthier, more inclusive cities.
