Regional cycling networks: Strategies and governance models to connect urban and rural areas
20 Jun 2024 12:00 - 13:00 CUBERDON (Orange room) Lectures
Connecting regions, cities and Neighbourhoods
Regional authorities across Europe have a distinctive but common challenge when it comes to connecting rural areas, towns, and villages to each other and to urban centres. Competences and jurisdictions as to which authorities are responsible for mobility, infrastructure and road safety can make the development of regional cycling networks rather difficult.
Select members from ECF’s Cities & Regions for Cyclists network, come together in this session to present experiences on strategy, governance, stakeholder engagement, communication and promotion, as well as quality and safety of their respective regional cycling networks.
Speakers are Signe Helledi, Head of Office for the Cycle Superhighway Collaboration of the Capital Region of Denmark, Thomas Zaw, Policymaker for active mobility and infrastructure at the Province of Groningen, Tim Scheirs, Mobility Officer at VENECO – a partnership of 21 municipalities around Ghent and Catia Chiusaroli, Head of the Mobility Planning office at Metropolitan City of Bologna.
