Making the benefits of cycling an election issue

Elections are an indispensable tool for advocates, to bring cycling to the forefront of public discourse. Traditionally, cycling advocates tend to engage with more progressive parties, as they are usually more welcoming to the cycling agenda. This may create a favourable landscape when said parties win elections, but it may fail to secure cross-party long-term commitment, often resulting in any progress being paused, dropped, or reversed when a different party is in power.
So how can cycling advocates be more effective in making the case for more and better cycling to be non-partisan? How can we develop narratives for parties across the political spectrum? How do we make the benefits of cycling an election issue?
Representatives of ECF Members come together for this fireside chat; Eline Oftedal, CEO Norwegian’s Cyclists Association, Duncan Dollimore, Head of Campaigns at Cycling UK, Damien O’Tuama, National Cycling Coordinator at Irish Cycling Campaign and Emil Maj Christensen, Political Consultant, Urban Planner & Designer at Danish Cyclists’ Federation.
